Intense. Dangerous. Addictive.

Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

Abby and Travis were never meant to be friends - Travis Maddox, the Eastern University's Walking One-Night Stand and king of a floating fight ring, and Abby Abernathy, on the straight and narrow after a dark past. Things are a little complicated, to say the least, especially when a dare throws them together in way that they never expected.

I'm not usually a big fan of contemporary, but this was well worth the read. McGuire uses a well thought out plot line, At some points within the novel, I wasn't sure where she was going with thing, and then, BAM! It made sense. It kept things interesting and I always love it when an author can surprise me with plot twist - even if they are only small ones.

I really liked the characters. McGuire wrote them all with such conflicting traits and personalities that you wouldn't think that they would intermingle well together, but they do. I love the individual voices that she gives to the characters that helps to define their personalities  I became very attached to all the characters and when something happened to on of them, good or bad, I had to feel for them - it wasn't an option. I found myself talking at the book again, getting frustrated at Travis along with Abby when he stuffed up - yet again! - and yelling at Abby to get a clue and see Travis's true feelings. I love it when a author is able to create characters that you can connect to, has to be the thing that I look for most in a novel, because, without it? what's the point in even reading a story about people you care nothing for? So, good job McGuire!

Beautiful Disaster is a emotional roller-coaster of a read that had me up to the wee hours of the morning to see where the ride would take me. It's a book you simply can't put down!

** My excitement is ramped up for the upcoming release of Walking Disaster, the story all over again - but from the inside of Travis's mind! Should be full on and thrilling!

  1. I love the cover of this book. I have heard mixed reviews about the book- but it does sound interesting. The fact that you don't usually like contemporary books, but you liked this one says a lot. Thanks for sharing!
