Why the hell can't chicks be more like guys?

That question plagues high school senior Sam Cruz. Sam is perfectly happy being a player. He just wishes girls wouldn't change the game from sex to relationships. It makes him look like an asshole. But when Sam's best friend, Ally Klinger, gets dumped, she begs him to transform her into someone who can screw around then screw off. No risk of heartbreak that way. It's Sam's chance to create the perfect female AND cheer up his best friend. Armed with Sam's Three Step Guide to Backseat Success, Ally gets the game better than Sam thought she would and before long, Sam has his wish: the female version of himself. Too bad it's driving him nuts.

Told from Sam's and Ally's alternating POVs, Sam Cruz's Infallible Guide to Getting Girls is a fast-paced romantic comedy that follows these teens as they navigate the minefield of sex, love, and friendship.

This book contains strong language, drinking, euphemisms, and lots of "bow chicka wow wow."

My Review

Ally Klinger and Sam Cruz are best friends, always have always will. Then Ally's long time boyfriends dumps her for another girl and the ration thinking, believer in love, turns to the womaniser Sam for help in chasing some tail. Ally is the model student and Sam a willing teacher - until the training stars to work and Ally is Sam's female counterpart. He thought he would be happy with his creation, but Sam soon learns that their friendship  has no place with this new Ally.

I love the dynamic of Sam and Ally's friendship. Even though they are world apart in both the social and personality department, they are the perfect best friends, complete with inside jokes and quiky rituals. In theory, they shouldn't work. However the artful way that Darling has built them up and portrayed them is a wonderful enigma.

Sam, where to begin with with Sam? He is a wonderfully broken boy with the charm, charisma and looks that leave all the girls drooling. He's an atypical teenage boy with one thing on his mind. Sex. In the abstract, anyone would think him a douch and a major first rate jerk the rate that he rolls through the ladies, but the side  that you see of him when he is with Ally is uber sweet. Then you learn of the family situation, and your heart bleeds for him, everything is so clear. Hats off to you Darling, Sam is  definitely a character that you just want to gobble up!

Ally is a very likeable character that you feel a connection with in her actions and thought process. You really want her to find all the things that she is looking for and not let her lose herself on the journey. I found that sometimes I was talking to the book... okay, maybe yelling is a better term - but it was in a good way, I promise! I was getting frustrated for her not being able to see what is right in front of her own two eyes and friggin' see! But then I remember that, while we get to see things from both Ally's and Sam's point of views, Ally doesn't know what Sam is thinking.

It a rather ingenious thing really, giving the reader full access to both the MC's thoughts. It really enables you to connect with them as you read about their lives and decision, understanding their reasoning. It's an excellent technique done by Darling in creating this bond as it drives you to read the book faster in anticipation of what is to come next.

Tellulah Darling has done an excellent job in enchanting us in her tale of love, lust and the ultimate friendship that we all wish we had. Sam Cruz's Guide to Getting Girls is a book that I recommend to anyone and everyone. So get on it! Read like there is no tomorrow!
