So in the last couple of days, Jennifer L. Armentrout has released the cover of Every Last Breath, the final installment in the Dark Elements trilogy. Initially, I was stoked - because a cover reveal? That means we're one step closer to the book release!
Then I saw the cover.
Her publisher, Harlequin Teen, has decided to redo the covers of the whole series.
Surely I can't be the only person this drives up the wall? I mean, changing all the covers of a series on the LAST book? It's just mean! And come on, where's the conviction to see something through to the end? If you didn't like the covers to begin with, why send the books to print? And if you liked the covers, why fix what isn't broken? Now you're just going to have that one book that doesn't match the rest of the series unless you go out and repurchase the books - and who has the money for that? I know I don't. My book addiction already has me spending too much of my limited income without my OCD tendencies with series continuity adding to the mix.
The only thing I can think of that annoys me more, is when they change the dimensions of the novels from book to book... (Case and point, Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments Series)
Finding the very thinly layered silver lining in this Dark Elements situation, Harlequin Teen took pity on us with OCD tendencies and has shared a link where you can download printable book jackets for White Hot Kiss and Stone Cold Touch. Information on how to do this can be found here on Armentrout's blog.
I personally like the original covers better than the new ones, but I guess I'm just going to live with the change... What do you think?
