Gideon always has a plan. His plans include running for class president, becoming head of the yearbook committee, and having his choice of colleges. They do NOT include falling head over heels for his best friend and next door neighbor, Kyle. It’s a distraction. It’s pointless, as Kyle is already dating the gorgeous and popular head cheerleader, Ruby. And Gideon doesn’t know what to do.
Kyle finally feels like he has a handle on life. He has a wonderful girlfriend, a best friend willing to debate the finer points of Lord of the Rings, and social acceptance as captain of the basketball team. Then, both Ruby and Gideon start acting really weird, just as his spot on the team is threatened, and Kyle can’t quite figure out what he did wrong…
About the Author
I’m a teen librarian from New Jersey where I was born and raised. I have a BA in Communication and a Master of Library and Information Science from Rutgers University. When I’m not writing, or teen librarian-ing, I enjoy reading, slot machines, marathoning TV shows, and long scrolls through Tumblr. A LITTLE SOMETHING DIFFERENT is my first novel.
I'm going to start off by saying that Been Here All Along is one of the cutest little love stories that I have read in a long while - the best part? It's man love, meaning they keep all their feelings bottled up inside until they can't take it anymore and it all pores out in the most amazing awwww moment. Love is love, and this love will warm a cold dead heart - in a cute teenage-y kind of way.
I think what brought my rating down for this book is Hall's writing - it's a bit choppy and kind of all over the place. This made it a little hard to follow the story at times, meaning I had to reread a lot of paragraphs in order to fully understand what was going on. It isn't totally unredeemable, just could maybe use with a good proofread.
Like with every book that i read that is set in high school, I am reminded that teenage girls are mean. Like most seem to grow out of it (hopefully) and usually see the error of their ways soon after they've done the super word-that-rhymes-with-'witchy' thing to ruin some other poor persons life (as was a theme here). So I just have to assume that our frontal lobes don't develop as quickly as our chest areas. I mean, Ruby is dealing with some real shiz at home and with her family, so I feel a little for her. But still. *sign* It just makes me really glad that my teenage years are behind me.
Been Here All Along is a short and super sweet story about an unexpected love between two people and the journey they take coming to terms with it. Definitely bookmark this one for an afternoon when you just need some warm fuzzies.
