My Review

I'm a bit of a sucker for a book about childhood friends falling for each one another. I think I'm more jealous of their life-long friendship more than anything else. I moved schools too many times to ever have one of my own.... *green-eyed monster leers from my shoulder*

Tomboy Lexi leads a double life. One as the star player of her schools female basketball team, and another as the leading school expert on the teenage boy and how to land one. The funny thing is, she can't seem to snag her own guy - Chris. When Lexi is hired to 'whisper' Chris for cheerleader Lindsay, while it makes her sick to her stomach to do it, she takes the job believing it will make Chris happy - and that's what is most important, not her crush on him. Friend and co-worker, Abi tries to convince her that that's total BS, but Lexi is too stubborn to listen.

Abi is, by far, my favourite character in The Boyfriend Whisperer. Why? She rocks up to this guys house saying she thinks there is a snake, yes snake, in her car and she needs his help to get it out. All in the name of causing a distraction to bail out Lexi. So. Damn. AWESOME. She is the kind of friend every girl needs in her life,

The whole, "Boyfriend Whisperer" thing kind of irked me a bit because Lexi was telling girls they had to be different than themselves to get the guy. You should always be your awesome self - if he doesn't like that person, then it's his loss. That being said, you should show interest in getting to know whatever they are passionate about. This whole line of thinking is sort of addressed towards the end of the book, but I'm just going to leave it as that, so not to soil anything for anyone.

I think that I need to finish this up on the stupidity of the teenage boy (that is often extended into adulthood). I will never understand how they can go from pining over one girl one moment, to making out with a different one (often one they don't have feelings for) the next. Chris is so certain that the secret admirer gift he got is from Lexi - and obviously has feelings for her - but when he is told it was actually Lindsay, he basically shrugs and is like, okay then, and starts dating her? WTF?! *deep calming breath* Boys. *eye roll*

The Boyfriend Whisperer is a sweet story about teens trying to work out what they want in life while navigating the mined field that is high school and first loves.

  1. Thanks so much for taking the time to read and review my book! (And don't tell Lexi, but Abi is kind of my favorite, too.)
